I'm waiting for the darn printer to work. Sometimes it prints right away--and sometimes it decides to wait for 5 minutes. Or 10. Or........
Or until you turn it on. :)

That's my usual trick.

planting a flag on the beach, time for a cold one

EDIT: TPS (and many others) - go ahead and solve the grid and give it a try. I'm not a music person myself, and really only listen to classic rock from the 70s and 80s (and a bit of 90s for fun), and I got this. I know only a very small number of country music names, and once you work with this for a while, you'll get an answer you can confirm is a country music name and you'll join us on the beach.

EDIT 2: if it helps you gauge this, I then rated the meta a "one star".

Just solved the grid and the meta. The main challenge for me was knowing nothing about country music, so confirming the answer required some googling.

Made it to shore! (My first rabbit hole dead-ended with an Yma Sumac cover band; so glad I saw my way clear for the long and looming weekend.) Best wishes to all for continued health and happiness.

Finished the grid - nice and easy which was great compared to the past two days - especially the Wed puzzle.

I don't think I'm going to bother with the meta - I think it would just result in a frustrating 3 1/4 days!

Ashore as well, easy peasy lemon-squeezy. May I ask why you’ve scheduled the answer email rather than just sending it directly?

Done and done. This one jumped right out at me.

Yes, I've heard of this singer. Good stuff! May put this artist on Pandora tonight as we play our daily Rummikub game.

On shore with everyone else

Slight quibble with one of the clues but it may be a regional definition

Coitanly you may ask!

It's a gmail feature that I only noticed, today. I wanted to test the feature for use going forward.

Today's answer was a 100% no-doubter, but there are times that I may be squishy on my answer and may want to change it before the deadline. There have been a few times in the past 12 months where I forgot or nearly forgot to mail in my answer to WSJ. I will make a habit of scheduling to email my "current" answer, as a safety.

[EDIT 1] The Gmail Scheduled Email feature works.

On the beach.

I had the answer in a couple of minutes. Now I can spend four full days not getting Matt’s week four.

Pretty sure the boat hadn't left the pier before I leapt off of it. Safely ashore drink in hand.

Well, I was clueless in one sense when my printer wouldn't work. Unfortunately I am now clueless in another sense! But the weekend is still young.

Ashore, after a much longer trip than necessary. If I knew anything about music this would have been a lot easier. Hopefully, no music in Matt’s puzzle tomorrow (and lots of sports).
