Thanks I will attempt it. Just finished baking biscotti. Cobbler is now in oven. HELP! Get me out of this house!
:o Think I've watched every Noir movie there is on the channel that plays them all the time.
We (2 of us) are wolfing our way though both a peach cobbler and date nut bread that my wife made (that we don't need). Don't overcook the biscotti as it makes it too hard unless you like dunking it in coffee or something.

p.s. I picked this up from my wife especially when she ran her baking business.
At the risk of contributing to controversy, biscotti should be crisp all the way through. For a soft cookie, one can skip the second baking altogether (but then it isn't biscotti).

yes, it will dry out and get harder, so don't bake it to the point where you think it's "final", it will keep going on its own

What channel is that? My GF loves old Noir but I don't think we have a channel that exclusively plays them.
Maybe it seems like it's on all the time, or maybe there are other channels too that play them.
We don't have cable, so it's an over the air network network called Movies TV Network

https://moviestvnetwork.com/schedule/ BLONDE ICE (Noir) tonight @ 11:50 pdt

I'm not sure who to write back to! LOL Mine are are a very pale golden on the first bake. Gotta watch the bottoms. Then sliced and put on their side for another 10 minutes. They are crisp, but not hard as a rock! And..
No Anise. Sorry everyone who likes it, but I can't stand the anise flavoring. Just almonds, that's it.

It is supposed to be hard to increase shelf life but most people I know like it soft or at least crisp and firm not rock hard.

Baking is almost as bad as other subjective topics. Everyone has their own preference.

I often start these puzzles from my phone. When I changed the view from the grid to the list format, "rascal" just popped out in its clue

Sometimes this helps - Reviewing the puzzle from a different perspective!

Elegant solution but would have stared a long time before getting to this. Very drawn in by the three pairs of crossing “in”s lower in the puzzle and the start to “in need”. Figured it has to something to the “sides” of these. Looking forward to the next one.

Yeah, that's how you make scotti.

A very similar mechanism was used by “Marie Kelly” in a puzzle called Noteworthy on January 11, 2019. Having seen this done before made the solve much easier.

I always look at the grid first. If nothing is happening there, then I go to the clues. Process of elimination.

OK just one more, I promise. The "hard as a rock" ones I used to get in Boston were Quaresemales.
Loved them. :) Dark biscotti w/ almonds. Either clove or cinnamon was the flavoring.

Because they’re working remotely, they’ve been posting the results on Tuesday.

Meg wrote: Mon Apr 06, 2020 6:30 am Finding the meta in the clues is standard Gaffney, but I don’t know if Mike has ever used it before. What a challenge! Being a fan of cryptic crosswords really helped on this one. At least the technique was familiar. One thing about metas.....you gotta look at everything.
Mike has used the clues at least once before, but MG has done it much more. As I said, I don't like looking in the clues (maybe it's all those little letter with my aging eyesight) and being that it was Mike's puzzle I thought it was unlikely anyway. I find that usually the solutions to Mike's metas are in the grid in one way or another. That's my favorite type of meta: no google, no clue searching.

Over the past few years, there have been a couple of contests where the clues were more than just clues.

This meta was a marvel and so devilish. A tough way to welcome all the new Muggles. On second thought, a good way to learn that using the clues is fair. I erupted in laughter😂 (Why am I laughing??) reading all the comments about being thus blindsided. I certainly think we’ll see this one again. Just adds another tool to our already heavy kit. Maybe we should preassign a watchdog Muggle each week to be on the lookout for such.
Matt and Mike keep us on our toes for sure. 🙋‍♀️(10)
