same, on the beach. watching the tide roll away. hoping that I'm at the right tiki hut. It's tiki, it's deserted, but there are other tikis around.

will sleep before I submit to the WSJ gods.

Ashore! I was doing it wrong. Agree with those who needed some time to get comfortable, and I’ll sleep on it as well.

Who’s up for beach volleyball at a 6-foot remove?

Six feet is very easy at Fort DeRussy beach. For the first time since the tiki huts were here a hundred years ago. That's diamond head in the distance.

Whoa... jelly! (as the kids say. I think).

I keep trying to do the same thing, and it keeps not quite working. And to make matters worse, my Dad (who has only ever solved a couple of these) emailed to say he thinks he figured it out.

Count me on shore. Nice to see a reference to the recently late Kenny Rogers.

Another week - another puzzle done in 15 minutes and another week with zero hope of getting the meta.

Grid done in ~15. All the signs are staring right at me but I can't seem to figure out what to do with them!

Same - This really might be the last one I do if I don't figure it out this week. This is so frustrating I'm gonna end up smashing my laptop if I keep trying these - I wish I had never heard of meta. I used to really enjoy crossword puzzles.

I stared at this one for a while. I kept trying the same kind of thing and I have an answer that makes some sense and is defensible, but I'm not 100% sure either. I don't really see how it could be anything else, but there's one little thing that's bothering me. It does make sense from one point of view though...

I'm going to look at it some more and probably submit on Saturday. If I get this one correct, it will be a full year of successfully solving the WSJ Crossword Contest so I don't want to mess it up now.

On shore - almost forgot it was Thursday again. Bartender, just leave that Guinness on the tiki bar and walk away - I'll come get it when you're six feet away, and then retreat to my own patch of sand with it.

On shore. I’m certain of the answer and have submitted, but not quite sure how I got the last little bit.
