I open the thread within a minute of when the contest gets posted on the WSJ web site. I have no clue how some solve it that fast. I am in awe

I too thought the grid was harder, but then I wondered: are Matt's and Mike's clues easier by some objective standard, or have I just gotten used to their style, and this was a new voice whose accent would take some getting used to but would then seem as easy as the others? But the meta was pretty much a gimme.

I made this one way harder than I should have. I took the title to mean something else. I am now safely ashore!

It took me a little while to see it, though I also had my job to do. At least I'm on shore.
Now I can focus on solving the MMMM which I still haven't gotten but is also supposed to be easy.

I wouldn't call the MMMM easy. I did have to use Google.Eric Porter wrote: ↑Thu Mar 05, 2020 6:30 pm It took me a little while to see it, though I also had my job to do. At least I'm on shore.

On shore. Meta for me was fun and somewhat easier than the grid.

Ashore. Joanne is new to Friday, but has constructed other puzzles, including the 2/18/20 WSJ (along with Amy Goldstein). She's an "insider," helping Mike with submissions.

Ashore! Nice to have a different meta constructor, and this was a good one!

Ashore! I'm just back from a long trip Down Under and enjoyed a nice meta to welcome me home.

The 1.5 stars currently showing seem about right, though come to think of it it might have made a good week 3.
