Marion and I are on shore! She gets a little more credit this week, but we got it.......luck to all.

On "The Cole Porter Songbook," Ella sings a word very similar to the meta answer. The exact word appears in another Porter song, not so well known, but a great one that Bill Evans sometimes played.

Two roads diverged on the crossword page
The wrong one — the one I took —
Seemed solid at this early stage,
So it was hard to disengage
For twenty minutes — what a schnook.
Returning, sure I had step one,
I checked the title one time more,
Picked up where I had once begun,
Changed paths, and voilà --done and done,
And quickly made my way to shore.

This one was just tough enough to be fun without frustration. On shore.

I've got the grid, and the mechanism actually helped me finish the grid pretty quickly.
But not 100% on my answer, don't see how it connects to the title of the puzzle, so I'll hang with Isaac for a while, probably pass out on the bar and wake up in the morning with the answer embedded on my forehead.
EDIT: definitely something 40D, I'm not a fan of IPAs/hops.
EDIT EDIT: on the shore

That was definitely a possibility but I was out in 25 degree windy weather photographing a short eared owl

On shore. I have a puzzle-crush on Patrick Berry. I, too, love Rows Gardens, among his others.

Channeled my inner Ken Jennings to make it to shore early this week. Now if I can just channel my inner James Holzhauer while making my NFL bets, it should be a good weekend!

Late start, after literally spending the day at the bar. But onshore.

On shore. With all the people abandoning ship, Isaac must be stocking up the bar for some doozies to come!

I felt the answer was a 100%-er that connected with the title quite well. I'd be interested (on Monday) to see what you're thinking.MajordomoTom wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 10:33 pm I've got the grid, and the mechanism actually helped me finish the grid pretty quickly.

that rabbit hole was small and smelly, so I abandoned it.Tony S wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2020 11:40 pmI felt the answer was a 100%-er that connected with the title quite well. I've found one I'm much more attracted to and on a different shore. That matches the title nicely.

Had some help from my son but am on shore and enjoying an IPA.
Grid seemed a little easier than normal, enjoyed the meta.
