I have heard of this series but never watched any. I went ahead and submitted and hope that it really is as easy as it seems.

I was a bit worried when I saw that the meta answer was a YouTube series that it would be something cool people watch that I’ve never heard of, but instead it turned out to be a nice easy one to start off the year. On shore.

On shore. This puzzle should tell us how many people attempt the Crossword Contest.

agree, this looks almost too simple, but consider me on the beach.

As others did, I also used the "answer" to help fill in the grid.

May not send to the WSJ as I look for a pageant type answer. Probably will watch some of the series on YouTube to see if there's one on pageants.

I dunno. I have the answer everyone has -- in fact Dearest Partner saw it before me, a first! -- but I'm going to hold off sending for a while.
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Just got to the puzzle, and got to shore FAST. Which seems to be the norm here this week. An MGWCC Week 1 tomorrow? I may have time to read and do things this weekend!

A new record. I opened the topic as soon as the puzzle came out. Al was on shore seven minutes later (even better than 7-11).

Wicked awesome.

It is just about the second anniversary of the famous pageant contest so nothing would surprise me with the nefarious Mr. Gaffney

I am counting you on shore. Either you will 1) submit what you have, 2) find an alternative answer and submit it or 3) forget and I will count you there anyway.

Bird Lives wrote: Thu Jan 02, 2020 6:31 pm Last Friday at the gym, the guy on the elliptical next to me had the WSJ folded open to the puzzle and was filling in the grid, an activity which probably accounted for his very slow pace on the elliptical. When I mentioned the meta, he said that he never bothered with that.

On Tuesday at the gym, he saw me, came over and apologized for brushing me off, and asked me to explain how the meta works. The only example that I could think of and that he would know of was the most recent — NOISEMAKER. Even if he understood my explanation, it's not the sort of thing that would get a newbie to try his hand.

I hope he’s there tomorrow. “Who Says” is the perfect entry-level meta.

On shore! 🏝🍹

The grid made me smile because there was an answer that I would not have known had it not been for a reference made within the group during previous puzzle conversations.

I think I could leave the ship right now. . . but will stay on board, at least long enough to finish the grid. . .
