I had completely forgotten it was WSJ day as I continued to struggle with MMMM. A comment on that board reminded me, and fortunately I made it to shore well before finishing the grid. More time for MMMM is a plus in my book!

Well, that was way too easy. On shore. My brain's kind of broken from trying to solve two other metas (and write two other metas) this week though, so I'm not super inclined to spend a lot of time worrying that I missed something. We'll see on Monday...

There once was a man named Joe
Kept wet in the water his toe
Knew meta was right
(Despite being light)
His pint of Guinness to go

Same here! I came to the board and saw some comments about the WSJ, and thought "wait a minute, there's no WSJ puzzle today." I have just been out of sorts this week.

On shore.

Happy to be on shore. We too predict quite a crowded beach party. Thank you Matt.

On shore. Slightly fearful of a pageant, but what are you going to do?

I predict the meta champs among us will get it in under a minute. It was easy, even for me.

On shore. Grid was fun, meta seemed too easy. As Peggy Lee said, โ€œIs that all there isโ€?

On shore. The WSJ must have taken pity on us after fewer than 750 muggles managed to solve the last 3. I think we'll have a record number of correct answers.

This week I'd have a better chance at winning the Powerball jackpot with a single ticket than winning the mug.

On shore, but worried about a pageant. My answer works, but for two reasons is not very Gaffneyesque.

Got it!
Another "Star Wars" droid: "(5-across) says your chances of winning the mug are 7250... to one."
