looked like it was going to be a hard one, but it turned out to be an easy one. There are a finite number of tricks the constructors can use. Still a good puzzle.

On shore! I either get these on Thursday evening or never. Believe it or not, the WSJ comment line is still active for last Saturday's Cox/Rathvon cryptic --- it had a meta of sorts that had to be solved before most of the answers could be entered in the grid --- very twisted and most rewarding.

Solved, and I'd be surprised if I got turfed out of this one like the two metas I got turfed out of last week.
Pretty doubtful, if I (I have more notable streaks getting these things wrong) got this one, then it must be pretty easy.
