MEOW #3: On the Rebound

A weekly meta crossword on the forum started by member Josh (aka madhatter5). These puzzles are often very creative with solving mechanisms out of the norm and skewing towards the more challenging. Puzzles are posted every Wednesday, and the solution appears the following Tuesday.

MEOW #3: On the Rebound

#1

Post by madhatter5 »

Hi all and welcome to the third installment of the MEOW.

http://crossword.info/madhatter5/On_the_Rebound

The answer to this meta is a game involving a bouncing ball.

Thanks to Meg for two suggestions, both of which I have acted upon:

1) I am happy to announce MEOW has a test solver (the one and only Whimsy) so you can expect the quality to go up a bit going forwards.

2) Black squares are now colored gray to save on toner when you print out.

I wasn't able to add the pdf or puz files here because it tells me the extensions are invalid (does anyone know how to get around that?) But if you send me your email I can send them to you. Note that you can download the pdf from the link above, but not the puz.

Good luck!

(a) put the puz and/or pdf files on your Google Drive or other cloud drive;
(b) make the Drive link public;
(c)copy link to message

Your software is a little maddening because it doesn't skip filled-in letters.
The site is just a web page, a meeting place, a clubhouse - it's the group that's special.

You will prefer making the individual file links public, rather than the entire drive, or folder, IMO.

I wasn't the one who came up with that clue unfortunately :) Though I wish I was.

Nothing here yet. I cannot seem to puck out themers even. Unless there are a lot of them.

Nor here. Eons ago there was a WSJ puzzle that involved bouncing balls (maybe some fellow old-timers remember it), but the mechanism doesn't seem to work for this one. Yes, I tried!
Good luck, fellow Muggles!

Can one be lost at sea while on the couch? If so, that is where I am.

I can delude myself into thinking I have an answer, but Iโ€™m pretty sure it is not the right one. It is never a good sign when no one is getting anywhere.

Aaaa!

I am in awe of Matt Gaffney's ability to (almost always) know what the week's difficulty level is. I am apparently really bad at guessing. I thought this one would be tough, but not quite as tough as this ...

Should I post a nudge?

You can all see one type of bouncing ball in the grid. Use it!

Don't apologize!

Thought I had something before nudge. Also, tried what I think the nudge is calling out, but... :?

We'll get there. Thank you for the nudge, Josh.
