"Pick Six" - August 16, 2020

Will just confirmed: I got it right.

Good puzzle! Football-themed, but even a non-fan (which is more less me) should know enough to solve it.

Email willsweeklymeta@gmail.com to get on the mailing list for a fun new meta every Sunday morning.

Thanks Chris!

Hope everyone enjoys this week's puzzle! It's definitely easier than last week's - lots of correct answers submitted already. And yes, new subscribers are always welcome to email me (willsweeklymeta@gmail.com). Don't be shy and never hesitate to ask for a hint - that's how we learn!!

Also, I want to thank both damefox and BrianMac (not sure if there's a way to hyperlink or @ them, still learning how to post here) for their edits on this puzzle - they are both big reasons why this puzzle should still be solvable for non-football fans. They deserve a ton of credit and thanks!!

Cheers!
-Will P.

Fun one, but took me quite a bit longer than the previous two!

Late start, but solved and confirmed. Great concept-Will’s puzzle is a fantastic addition to the weekly puzzle calendar.

BrianMac, can we give this man his own sub-forum?

Edit: Thanks, Brian!

Count me on the Will train-- nice job!

Sunday afternoon meta and Bandon Dunes on the Golf Channel; life is good.

Thanks Chris for telling us about this.

I wasn't going to subscribe. I spend enough time on puzzles already. But it's a rainy Sunday here, so I couldn't resist.

I'm very football ignorant but was able to solve it. Only google was at the end, to be sure the team name I found really did play football.

I'd be curious to hear, after the deadline, what changes Brian and Emma suggested.

Maybe I spoke too soon, as the conductor ushered me off at the next station. I eventually reboarded after several nudges.

I am still pretty comfortable with my alternate solution :P

Forgot to check my email and print the puzzle before taking a day trip to the Oregon coast; got home and solved the puzzle with sand still on my feet.

The meta mechanism was clear to me halfway through the grid, and after a minor false start I scored a Pick Six. Fun puzzle!

My first attempt was wide right; but my second split the uprights. So now that Will has his own thread, we need to come up with an "I solved it!" metaphor. After all, isn't the proclamation what we solve a meta for?
