Solved! I was on the doorstep this afternoon but couldn't get my foot in the door. Or something. Picked up the puzzle again this evening, knocked down the door in about 3 minutes.

Very satisfying - made it to shore/off couch/to starship. Cleverest reuse I have seen and nifty mechanism. It all ties together nicely. Now granted I got in the weeds a bit because of the old "haste makes waste" or rather "haste makes unintelligible answer" but a head slap from Bird Lives solved that.

I’m so glad I didn’t find this coincidence the first time around. I am out of the box.

Other than the SHOFER (is that a horn that blows when a car is driven?) what is the Easter Egg - or does that ruin the META?

The Easter Egg won’t make sense unless you have the meta.

Guess I'll have to look closer because I got the META, just need to pay more attention.

Off the couch. I was on the right track, but took a long time to finish the last step.

Added since last count:

22. Rpardoe
23. DrTom
24. Beth Tyrpin
25. FrankH

Here are a couple of nudges. Sorry for the delay.

1. The “five others” in the instructions are in the grid once you apply the title. Length indicated by the first number.

.
2. Those people with distinctive first names also have last names, which is where the second number becomes relevant.

Oops, I shouldn't be on the "correct answers" board. Yet.

It should be obvious to even a casual observer that any similarity between me and the genuine Cruise Director is purely coincidental.

Well if you both write books about your experience in this endeavour, would they be considered cruise missals? I mean they would be likely to have a mass effect....

And some ages get better with puzzles! (for example, this Covid age has CERTAINLY gotten better with puzzles!)
