Good morning Muggles, and welcome to Muggle Meta Monday! Before we go any further, how about a big hand for Tom’s excellent “Pieces of Eight” meta last week?

Today’s puzzle is called “Borne on the Fourth of July,” probably around a Week 3 rating. Please PM me your solution by 4 PM on Sunday, and this week, I’m going to try to give at least one or two snapshots of a leaderboard during the week. Feel free to PM me for nudges, but try to stick with it for a couple days first. If nothing else, Nudge Wednesday occurs on… uh, Wednesday this week.

The meta answer is something people do on the Fourth of July. Good luck!

Nice one, Al. The grid itself was very fair and lively - filled with good, non-obscure stuff.

Off the couch!

Loved it. Tight enough, in my view, to be a WSJCC.

More Sisti-an (Sisti-esque?) clueing too. I especially liked 31D.

You go, Al!

Agree. My thoughts exactly as I solved. This is WSJCC quality.

I was just informed that there is a non-meta-related typo at 33D; the clue should say "...three-time presidential candidate..." (not "...thee-time..."). Shoot... I hate making mistakes, that's why I'm so fanatic about proofroofreading.

Off the couch. Fun puzzle. 46A and 47D intersection is a Natick for me and I had to get help from Mr. G.
