Madhatter5 Cryptic #2

Hi all!

Last time I ran a cryptic as a contest where whoever submitted the first correct entry got to choose the theme of an upcoming MEOW puzzle. Hector won that one and suggested snakes. Well, I made a snake puzzle and I think it turned out really well (currently in testing), so I'm going to do the same thing again. (Except Hector can't win twice, that would just be cruel).

I'm guesstimating this one is marginally more difficult than the first, but not sure.

Please send submissions of the completed grid to jdrubin@middlebury.edu

Good luck!

Love it.

Thanks for another cryptic.
Your guesstimate is correct - this one seemed a bit more challenging than the first puzzle.

I got 14d by googling for synonyms. Great clue for that entry!

I believe I have 24a ... but maybe not. And stuck on 24d and 27a.

If any solver has a moment to, please PM me with a nudge on one or more of these.

Thanks!

EDIT: With help I finished. One entry gave me one of my biggest puzzling chuckles ever.

Chris, I did make a factual mistake with 24a so you likely have the right answer.
